Toerag studios – Against all odds

I receive the IMX (Iceland Music Export) newsletter quite often and one was profiling the recording of Lay Low’s second album. She decided to record it at Toe Rag studio in London, I’d never heard of this place but a quick search informed me of the true analogueness of the place. Against the fresh digital trend of the early nineties Liam Watson (studio owner) pressed eject on DAT machines and opted for vintage analogue recordings. After the success of Elephant by the White Stripes tons of bands went to ring the buzzer of Toe Rag. There is a good article on Liam and his studio at www.soundonsound.com

Antony Cairns – Serious about his printing

16.06.2009 (10:57 pm) – Filed under: Black and White,Film Photographers,Printers ::

Tony is a bizarre character, by night he is a DJ smashing out tunes and a master of modern day DJ equipment but by day (when not hunched over an archive he works for) he puts on his tweed and gets down to some serious old-skool black and white printing!

Top three cameras: 5×4 MPP field camera, Weltaflex twin lens reflex camera, Minox
Top three films: Agfa APX 100 Black and White, Ilford Delta 3200, Fuji Neopan 400

In the future: “Experiment more with antique photographic processes”

Why analogue: “Because it’s a chemical process using sunlight, the source of life, digital photography is pure simulation”

Federico Ferrari – An Italian Analogue Stallion!

02.06.2009 (12:39 pm) – Filed under: Film Photographers ::

I met Federico when he submitted pictures to a book I was photo editing. We were already flickr buddies but at the time I didn’t realize that.
As the months flew by his work changed from Lomography snap-shots to well thought out frames shot with his Hasselblad 501cm. The simplicity of his shots with solid tones and fantastic framing is what makes him stand out as an Analogue Master. And the perfect guy to start this blog with!
Top 3 cameras: Hasselblad 501cm, Lomo lc-a and Contax T2

Top 3 films: Kodak Portra 400vc, Agfa RSXII and Fuji Pro 160C

Your Aim: Becoming a professional one day without loosing the pleasure and freedom
of shooting of the amateur.

Plans: None just some photographic projects to be started soon, and probably the idea of leaving Italy, but I’m saying that thing for too much time and I’m here still.
