Some Super8 Mate? …A music video by Joel Byron…

Finally some motion on Analoguemasters!

We Stumbled on this music video shot by Joel Byron entirely on Kodak Tri-x using a Canon 1014XL.

The beauty isn’t just that’s it’s on super 8 but the fact that it was shot all on one real with no editing!

This is for straight8 which “invites anyone anywhere to make a short film on one cartridge of super 8 — without editing. The first time filmmakers see their film is at its premiere at a cinema!”

The band are clearly insane but in a good way. A very good way!

Check out more from the filmmaker
And of course the band The Helmholtz Resonators

I love Iceland, music and most things analogue. Therefore by default I love Skakkamanage! (I have no idea how to pronounce their name)

The four band members from Reykjavík record analogue. Why?

“They like the warmth of the sound you get if you record analogue. To take it all the way through the whole procedure of making an album is a challenge and all challenges are wholesome for an artist.” Says Balli @ Kimi records

Benni Hemm Hemm vary from 4 to 14 band members with Scottish and Icelandic roots.
Balli at Kimi records Informed me that they record analogue.
The reason I was given was because analogue is the only way! That’s enough of a reason for me…

Check out their bigband folk, indie pop music!

Herman Düne – They could only be analogue

With Sweedish/French roots, Herman Düne are the kind of band you either have never heard of or love!
I read somewhere that their music is “Indie Antifolk”, i have no idea what that means but maybe you can decide for yourself here.

They’ve been praised by big-name publications from NME to the Independent and even the late John Peel was a fan inviting them to play at his Christmas party back in 2000.
My main concern however is their analogue obsession as they still record triple A and press records!
It was also a natural choice for them to get Ringo, head of Lomography France and girlie music lover to shoot all their press images on film.

Check them out

Toerag studios – Against all odds

I receive the IMX (Iceland Music Export) newsletter quite often and one was profiling the recording of Lay Low’s second album. She decided to record it at Toe Rag studio in London, I’d never heard of this place but a quick search informed me of the true analogueness of the place. Against the fresh digital trend of the early nineties Liam Watson (studio owner) pressed eject on DAT machines and opted for vintage analogue recordings. After the success of Elephant by the White Stripes tons of bands went to ring the buzzer of Toe Rag. There is a good article on Liam and his studio at www.soundonsound.com
